.
I never said they DID take any assistance. I meant that even being in that position was poor planning.
Plus….
I’m sitting here listening to a news story about Military service members seeking emergency help for cash assistance. And food banks near military bases being overwhelmed….in some cases up 20%+ in the last month.
But I’m sure Vern is right….none of them ever took a nickle.

It might become hard to do family planning if birth control access is limited, which the GOP seems to want to do.

Just-jim review my post where I said qualifies DID NOT say got in my time in I can honestly say I do not know of a single military member that took any gov assistance regardless of how hard times were, for the most part, at least while I served, military members are a proud group of individuals and take pride in themselves and their ability to cope with adversities, unlike the cry babies in today's society. As far as family planning goes most military did do family planning and limited themselves to a spouse and 2 children, yes there were exceptions but for the most part were responsible adults and lived within their means again very unlike today's society as a whole.just-jim wrote: Wed Oct 15, 2025 5:49 pmBy that same twisted logic - the E6 that qualifies for food stamps should take his lumps for doing a piss poor job of family planning, too, right?Jingles wrote: Wed Oct 15, 2025 4:01 pmNobodies not getting paid if when the shutdown ends fed employees get back pay. If you are living paycheck to paycheck it is small comfort that you will be paid eventually. And it doesn't really matter why, the person who misses their paycheck is going to be pissed off at their employer.
And keep in mind there is no guarantee people forced to work during the shutdown will get their back pay and there is no way to know how long this shutdown will last.

Nobodies not getting paid if when the shutdown ends fed employees get back pay. If the employee is that strapped they apparently have either done piss poor prior planning or no planning at all and have been living above their means. Sorry but I have no/ zero sympathy for those that don't plan for the future, even when we were strapped having tough times we put part of our pay aside for emergencies or harder times, even if it meant eating ramen 5 nights a week, apparently today's society has no concept of that ideamister_coffee wrote: Wed Oct 15, 2025 6:06 am There is a heck of a difference between poor compensation and no compensation at all.

Jingles, no doubt taxpayers should be outraged at this story as well as the low pay. Yet Rep Leader Mike Johnson has the House on recess and refuses to bring it back and has stated he will not negotiate with Dems. That's not a 'both sides are to blame' action. He has resisted the swearing in of the newly elected AZ Representative, for the simple reason that she would give the House its 218th vote to release the Epstein files. But she has been certified by her State and the people of AZ deserve to be represented by her vote.

While the story is probably factual, can say from having served for 20+ years as an enlisted member of the USN, the story is cherry picking things to cause dissent and pull on heart strings
They don't mention that the pay for mid and low level enlisted personal is so low that even an E-6 (mid level enlisted) With 4 dependents, qualifies for food stamps and government assistance programs. That should be the story verses pulling on heart strings blaming the Gov shutdown. Citizens should be upset, no outraged at all members of Congress, yes both parties, that they resort to a CR to keep the government operating instead of having a budget in place by 1 Oct. Have often thought that there should be no Congressional recesses as long g as there is work to be done, especially getting a budget approved, used to think that if they can't get a budget the first ones to not get paid should be all members of Congress, but congressional members have lined their pockets so full that their congressional pay is nothing compared to what they get from other sources. (Lobbiest)

I think the history of what happens to governments that don't pay their soldiers is an ugly one.
