No doubt there aren't enough forensic accountants, but with AI assist and approvals from Congressional purse strings there would have been a better chance of transparency vs the list of gotchas that are driving the narratives. Musk's attacks on the employees of the Fed'l govt, his political enemies lists and dismantling consumer protections are a pretty clear line towards his real goals. Having team acne programmers running point leaves little doubt his goal is not to create a more efficient govt.

So far the courts have disagreed with Musk's tactics and have not just told him to cease and desist but to return any stolen data. We'll see how law enforcement wrangles that one.

And here's a thought. If Elon's only goal was to look for fraud he would have hired accountants, not programmers.
There aren't enough forensic accountants in the world to do that job.

There is this very broken belief amongst tech people that since programming is so hard and intellectually demanding someone who is good at programming is likely to be good at any other job requiring brainpower. Even without training and experience. Kind of like an extreme case of False Authority Syndrome.
