SpaceX performs something over 60 percent of all launches for DOD.
In 2024 SpaceX had 134 Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launches, more than everyone else in the world combined. SpaceX launched 84 percent of satellites that were put in orbit in 2024.
Spacex also performs these launches at lower cost and higher reliability than their competitors.
With all that, SpaceX is ran by someone who is behaving in increasingly erratic ways, has a very murky financial structure, and might also be running into financial trouble (we can't tell but we know Starlink is losing money and Starship development has burnt through most of the capital raised for it which are both bad signs).
Based on all that, I think you can make a national security argument that SpaceX ought to be nationalized. In normal times that would make sense. But who knows...
