Getting Facts Correct

The October 18 Methow Valley News report on the aquatic district proposal included this quote --
"It [a Methow aquatic district] would be governed by a five-member board of commissioners. The board would include one Twisp Town Council member, one Winthrop Town Council member, and the Okanogan County commissioner representing the Methow Valley. Two at-large members who live within the school district boundaries would be appointed by the Twisp and Winthrop town councils. The towns and county would enter into an interlocal agreement for governance of the aquatics district."
This is not correct. The language of Proposition 1 does NOT specify the make-up or governance of a future aquatic district. There is NO interlocal agreement about future membership of the proposed district. As Commissioner Hover told me in July, the county will only consider an interlocal agreement if the proposition passes. Proposition 1 simply says that commissioners will be appointed.
