They don't have the final design and costs for the pool complex yet...
They don't know what amount the operation/maint costs will need to be levied...
They don't know if they will need construction $$$ debt service to be levied...
They don't have the Interlocal Agreement between the three jurisdictions formulated and signed yet...

BUT they do want a permanent taxing authority created before any of the above factors...
Very premature and unfair to the voters... Cart before the horse... Wrong type of District chosen...

Maybe those fortunate enough to own rental properties should calculate what the increase in the taxes will be on those rental properties, advise the renters that if this does pass their rent will go up to cover the cost of those increases effectively the month following the vote.
Heaven knows rent prices are already higher than a humped back snarling cat's back and some renters are already struggling between meals or rent

The minutiae of this propoal... Minutiae? It is not minutiae to raise our taxes for a close to $21 million facility and that has maintenance costs of close to $500,000. Who are they kidding, us, themselves?
It is insulting to me that it is considered minutiae, our lives, affecting our taxes, that are already a regressive taxing system as pointed out in the excellant letter in the MVN by Dave Hopkins.
With no district, no pool? Look at the Town of Twisps Capital Expenditures Budget. A pool is on there for $7 million plus. Not a center but a seasonal pool.
Right Ray, we have to educate. If renters don't want to see rent increases due to higher taxes, this cannot pass. Taking control.
I agree hard to believe that FOP is attacking voters already. They are asking us for enormous power and asking for what basically amounts to a blank check of taxpayer money that is willfully hurting low and fixed income property owners.

Why would anyone trust these folk when they are short on details and are actively spreading misinformation.

When asked specific questions concerning their proposal they call that asking for minutiae? How insulting.

Come on Justin, at least tell the voters how much taxpayer money the Board of commissioners will be paid.

And how about coming clean about the powers of eminent domain which by Washington State law a Metropolitan Park District possesses?

Do the voters know that a Metropolitan Park District has the power to place a lien on property and sell their homes in a foreclosure process if they can't afford to pay this enormous tax levy you are seeking?

In other words at least be honest with the voters and loose the insults.

Pool Complex Proposition 1 is on the ballot

Now the work starts to educate the voters about the different types of districts and what a toxic district the Friends of the Pool chose…
Thanks to you, our Friends, and our volunteers, the Methow Aquatics District will be on the November ballot!

Help Celebrate and Extend a Big Thank You to everyone who participated in their own way to support this effort. The County is still counting signatures, but we are confident we have enough.

Pool Party
AUG 16th, 6-8pm

From business owners who hosted petitions on their premises, to our Task Force members, individuals, and endorsements we gathered over 1200 signatures. We want to thank everyone for helping out in this massive undertaking.

We are organizing now for fall voter education events and your help will still be needed to make this a successful campaign. Already the opposition has launched a counter attack against this effort. We understand many of their concerns about higher taxes and the expense of the MAC. But what they are failing to miss, as they attack the minutiae of the this proposal, is that without a district, there is no reliable way to ensure a future public pool for the valley. Let’s all be clear and spread the message:

THERE IS NO RELIABLE FUTURE WITH A PUBLIC POOL WITHOUT A SPECIAL PURPOSE DISTRICT TO FUND IT - AND TIME IS OF ESSENCE

Time is running out with the life of the Wagner Pool and the the longer we wait, the longer we risk a community without a pool. Time is money and the more expensive it will be.

We’ve done our homework, we’ve talked to other communities, we’ve talked with state and federal officials. They’ve advised us -we need a district to show public buy-in before we can leverage grants and donations or funding from the legislature and agencies. If this proposition fails at the ballot, we are left with few options.

Please join us, AUG 16th to celebrate your accomplishments, stay engaged and educated on the next steps of this campaign, and enjoy the water!
