Re: Poorman Creek/2nd Mile Ranch Fire
I was in the garden. We are about 3 miles from 2nd Mile. There was a white flash and I went running into the house, and it was quite loud. I didn't expect it to be that loud.

Poorman cr/2nd Mile Ranch Fire
Early this morning my house was shook by one of the loudest thunder claps I’ve ever heard. Turned out it started a fire on top of the ridge about half way between 2nd mile ranch and lookout mtn. Called it in and folks if you don’t have a forest service map with township, range and section please get one. Ranger district has them and will show you how to use it. I reported the location and told them active flame and smoke at top of ridge. Lots of people mistake fog for smoke after it rains so seeing flame and reporting it as such gets emergency services attention. Rural trucks, forest service and jumpers were on seen quickly. 4 jumpers jumped while I escorted a FS engine to the best location to hike to the fire. Do you know your area and road access? If not best get an idea to help out 1sr responders.
After jumpers were down and jumper plane was out of the way a helicopter got on it. Thanks to the neighbors having a small lake the buckets were easy to fill and drop on fire. Without such quick action this fire would’ve been out of control so thank you responders. Also note FS hand crew was on its way around noon to release jumpers so they could be ready for next call.
